Our story
A small workshop. Three generations. One promise — that the furniture you bring home outlives the trends that brought you to it.
Our story
Assam Furniture House began in 1998 in a single rented shed in Kampur. Hiren Bordoloi, our founder, had spent fifteen years apprenticing at a tea-estate carpenter's workshop before he decided to put his name above his own door.
Twenty-eight years later, the workshop on the banks of the Kolong has expanded three times, but the way we make furniture hasn't changed. We still hand-cut every joint. We still hand-rub every finish. And we still don't let a piece leave the floor until the senior craftsman has run his palm over the grain.
Today our furniture sits in homes from Kampur to Tezpur, from Guwahati to Shillong. Wedding sets we made fifteen years ago are being passed down to the next generation. That is the only review we ever ask for.
A short timeline
The first workshop
Hiren Bordoloi rents a 400 sq.ft. shed on the Kampur–Nagaon road and hires his first two apprentices.
Move to the Kolong workshop
The growing business moves to a 1,800 sq.ft. workshop on the river — the same site we operate from today, now expanded three times.
The first wedding throne
A neighbour commissions a pair of carved thrones for his daughter's wedding. We've been making them ever since — over 200 pairs and counting.
Second-generation Bordoloi joins
Hiren's eldest son Anurag returns from a furniture design course in Delhi and begins overseeing the showroom and modern lines.
Boutique premium showroom
The new showroom opens on NH-37, with dedicated room sets, a customer tea lounge, and the Design Studio.
1,200+ families
This year we delivered our 1,200th family heirloom — a teak almirah for a couple whose parents we built furniture for two decades ago.
What we stand for
Solid wood, always
We never sell veneer or particle board as solid wood. The grain you see is the grain that goes through the piece.
Hand-finished
Every piece is sanded, stained and waxed by hand. It takes longer. The finish is worth it.
Built to outlast trends
We design for grandparents, parents and children — not for next year's catalogue.
